Canal Heritage Society Members' cultural club · Suez
A members' society since 2016 · based in Suez

One membership. A year of Egypt's museums and cultural life.

The Canal Heritage Society is a members' cultural club, not a ticket shop. One annual membership opens a network of museums to you all year, puts you first in line for talks, tours and cultural evenings, and makes you part of a community of people who care about Egypt's heritage. It is the difference between buying a ticket and belonging somewhere — between visiting Egypt's heritage now and then, and making it part of your year.

Why membership, not tickets

Belonging beats buying.

A single ticket gets you through a door once. A membership changes your whole relationship with the country's cultural life — you stop counting entry fees, you start going more often, and you become part of something with a community around it. Here is what that actually means in practice.

I.

Unlimited entry, all year

Your membership card admits you to every museum in our network, as often as you like, for a full year. No counting visits, no working out whether a return trip is worth the fee, no tickets to keep track of — you simply go, whenever you please.

II.

First in line for events

Members get priority booking and reduced or free entry to our programme of talks, curator-led tours, and cultural evenings — more than forty a year, many for members only.

III.

A community, not a queue

Membership makes you part of a society of people who care about Egypt's heritage — fellow members you meet at events, a quarterly journal, a vote in how the society is run, and a sense of belonging that a ticket can never give.

How it works

From joining to your first visit.

Becoming a member takes minutes, and your card works from the moment you have it. Here is the whole process.

1

Choose your membership

Pick the membership that fits you — individual, family, or a gift for someone else. The membership page sets out each one, and there is no hidden fee at the end.

2

Join securely

Join through our secure form. Your details are submitted by post, never exposed in a web address, and your membership is confirmed the same day.

3

Receive your card

You receive a digital membership card immediately and a printed card by post if you want one. Either admits you to the whole museum network.

4

Visit, and keep visiting

Show your card at any network museum and walk in, as often as you like, and book your place at member events through the year. That is the whole of it.

Who we are

A society, founded in Suez, run for its members.

The Canal Heritage Society was founded in 2016 by a group of people in Suez who loved the region's museums and were frustrated that the only way to support them was the occasional ticket. They built a society instead: a membership body that channels members' subscriptions into the museums and the events programme, and gives members unlimited access and a real voice in return. A decade on, the network spans fourteen museums and the events run all year, and the society still answers to its members rather than to any owner — the founding idea has held.

We are a membership society, not a commercial reseller. We are not the museums themselves and we say so plainly; we are the body that connects members to them and runs the cultural programme around them. The full story is on the about page, our founding principles on the charter page, and how membership works in detail on the how membership works page.

Before you join

The questions members ask first.

Is this a museum or a separate body?

We are a separate members' society, not a museum and not a government body, and we never pretend otherwise. We partner with a network of museums to give our members access; the museums remain independent. Our role is the membership and the events around it.

How quickly can I use my membership?

The same day. Your digital card is issued immediately on joining and works at every network museum at once; a printed card follows by post if you would like one. There is no waiting period.

Which museums are included?

Fourteen museums across the canal region and beyond, listed in full on the museum network page before you join. We never make you guess what your membership covers.

Can I share my membership?

An individual membership is for one named member, but a family membership covers a whole household, and you can buy a gift membership for someone else entirely. Each card is tied to its member at the door.

Does my membership pay for itself?

For most members, yes, and quickly. If you would otherwise pay entry at network museums even a handful of times in a year, the unlimited access alone covers the subscription — and that is before the events, the journal and the guest privileges are counted. Members tell us the membership pays for itself within a few visits and then keeps giving for the rest of the year. The full value is laid out on the benefits page.

What happens at the end of the year?

We write to invite you to renew — there is no silent automatic charge. You decide whether to continue, and if you do, your access carries on without a gap. If you do not, there is nothing to cancel and no penalty. A society should be easy to stay in and easy to leave.
